In 1906, Vickery National Bank was founded in Lavonia, Georgia by C. W. Vickery and others. It was located on the corner of Jones and Grogan Street. The bank was sold in 1909 to Walter N. Harrison and others and the location was moved to the corner of West Main and Depot Street. The name of the bank was changed to First National Bank of Lavonia.
In 1940, the bank changed from a National Bank to a State Bank and the name was changed to Northeast Georgia Bank.
In 1968, the Whitworth family purchased the bank. It has been run as a community bank since.
In 1983, our present ownership structure was formed. First Security Bankshares, Inc. a bank holding company owns all the shares of Northeast Georgia Bank. The holding company is controlled by the Whitworth family.
Northeast Georgia Bank continues to be headquartered in Lavonia. Presently Northeast Georgia Bank has 11 offices in 6 counties. Northeast Georgia Bank is located in Franklin, Hart, Elbert, Stephens and Jackson counties, and now with an office in Banks county.
